Honolulu, HI (July 25, 2011) – The 2nd Annual Rice Fest would like to invite vendors from across Hawaii to participate in this special event honoring our islands’ favorite grain — rice! The 2011 Rice Fest is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, September 11 at Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park.

HPELive is partnering with the Hawaii Food Bank, Hawaii’s Credit Unions and Lanakila Meals on Wheels to host this great event. A plethora of activities is planned including cook-offs, celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, a SPAM musubi eating contest, a competition to build the Guinness World Record Spam Musubi, plus lots of rice dishes for everyone to enjoy. The 2011 Rice Festival will also be featuring the new book ‘The Hawaii Book of Rice’ by Cheryl Chee Tsutsumi. Several recipes from her book will be recreated for the cook-offs.
10’ x 10’ food booth spaces are available for $300 and 10’ x 10’ non-food booth spaces are available for $400. Each 10’ x 10’ booth will be piped and draped and will include one table, two chairs, and up to ten name badges.  Also available are 20’ x 20’ food booth spaces for $450 and 20’ x 20’ non-food booth spaces for $600. For more information or an application, please call Nicole Okamura at (808) 237-3671 or email atNicole@hawaiipacificentertainment.com.
The Hawaii Food Bank and Hawaii’s Credit Unions are also asking everyone to “Have a Rice Day!” Starting Friday, September 9 until Thursday, November 10 at your participating Credit Union, you can help feed the hungry by donating a 20 pound bag of rice or a monetary gift of $12 to help end hunger in Hawaii. Lanakila Pacific’s “Meals on Wheels” program, which feeds needy seniors, will also be taking donations at this year’s Rice Fest.
So come down to Magic Island on Sunday, September 11, for the 2011 Rice Fest from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and be ready to eat lots of rice!
